AI and Compliance

There are two sides to AI and compliance: AI systems doing compliance work, and compliance with the rules that now govern AI. Adoption is already mainstream in finance. The Bank of England and FCA's 2024 survey found that 75% of UK financial services firms already use AI. The question for a compliance officer is what to insist on before trusting a system with regulatory text: a run record, cited sources, and a named person deciding wherever accountability sits.

The regulation side moves just as fast. The EU AI Act, Regulation (EU) 2024/1689, became generally applicable on 2 August 2026, and the Digital Omnibus on AI moved the high-risk obligations for Annex III systems to 2 December 2027. Start with what AI agents for compliance actually do, then how accurate LLMs are on regulatory text, and use the EU AI Act checklist for deployers to date your own obligations.
